OnTECH Charter High School is seeking a passionate and innovative Leadership & Future Readiness Teacher to help our students develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and habits of mind needed to thrive in college, careers, and life.
At OnTECH, we believe every student has genius to discover and contribute. Our students are nontraditional learners who bring diverse experiences, talents, challenges, and aspirations to the classroom. We are looking for an educator who can meet students where they are while helping them envision and actively build where they want to go.
This position will lead a dynamic, student-centered course focused on leadership, career readiness, life skills, and future-focused competencies. The course should connect classroom learning to the real world through authentic projects, community partnerships, work-based learning, reflection, and opportunities for students to practice leadership.
We value a growth mindset, educational equity, innovative teaching, character development, and a strong sense of community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging instruction in leadership, future readiness, career development, and real-world life skills for students in grades 9–12.
- Help students develop essential skills including communication, collaboration, problem-solving, self-advocacy, decision-making, goal-setting, adaptability, and professional behavior.
- Develop students’ understanding of career pathways, workplace expectations, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and postsecondary opportunities.
- Create authentic opportunities for students to practice leadership through projects, presentations, community engagement, work-based learning, and school-wide initiatives.
- Help students identify their strengths, interests, talents, and goals and connect those assets to future opportunities.
- Incorporate current and emerging topics such as artificial intelligence, digital citizenship, technology, changing workplaces, and the skills required to navigate an evolving economy.
- Develop meaningful partnerships with local businesses, organizations, colleges, community leaders, and other professionals to expand students’ understanding of the world beyond high school.
- Use project-based and experiential learning to connect academic concepts with authentic problems and opportunities.
- Support students’ social-emotional development and individual learning needs, including students with IEPs and 504 plans.
- Foster a classroom culture in which students feel safe taking risks, making mistakes, asking questions, and developing their voice as leaders.
- Incorporate OnTECH’s Habits of the Mind into instruction and student reflection.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning experiences and opportunities for students to apply their learning across the school.
- Participate actively in the OnTECH community and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture.
- Maintain accurate student records, assess student progress, and communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for an educator who is able to answer a simple but important question:
“What does a young person need to know and be able to do to thrive after high school?”
The ideal candidate is:
- An excellent communicator, relationship-builder, and collaborator.
- Passionate about working with adolescents and helping students discover their strengths.
- Comfortable working with students who may not have experienced traditional school success.
- A creative and flexible educator who can make learning relevant to students’ lives.
- Experienced with project-based, experiential, or real-world learning.
- Able to build relationships with community and industry partners.
- Someone who believes leadership is something that can be developed—not something students either have or don’t have.
- Comfortable facilitating discussion, reflection, presentations, teamwork, and student-led learning.
- Curious about the future of work, technology, entrepreneurship, and changing career pathways.
- Committed to educational equity and the belief that every student can succeed.
Preferred Qualifications
- NYS teaching certification appropriate to the assignment; Business and Marketing certification or a related CTE certification is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in business, entrepreneurship, workforce development, career education, leadership development, counseling, youth development, or a related field is highly valued.
- Experience with project-based learning, work-based learning, internships, or community partnerships.
- Experience working with nontraditional learners or students who have experienced barriers to traditional educational success.
- Experience developing partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, colleges, or community organizations.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
We also encourage candidates with substantial professional experience in business, entrepreneurship, workforce development, leadership, or community-based work to apply. NYS certification eligibility will be considered based on the candidate’s background and the instructional assignment.
