Job Summary:
Laydon, is a family owned and operated excavating & paving company since 1944 providing Underground Construction and Utility Support Services throughout the state of Connecticut. We strive to maintain quality workmanship and provide a safe work environment for our employees and general public.
We are seeking qualified candidates for a Laborer position. The ideal candidate must have previous paving experience, knowledge of asphalt, and possess a valid driver's license.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the job site, including offloaing the truck, setting up equipment and gathering tools for the day.
- Perform manual labor including but not limited to digging, raking, shoveling, sweeping, and filling holes.
- Sweeping and cleaning the area in front of the paver.
- Transport rakes, lutes, shovels and spray cans to the paver.
- Help measure and line out the area for the day's paving.
- Operate tools, including hand and power tools for raking, jackhamjmering, and other mechanical work.
- Transport water to the rollers, power broom, and plate compactor.
- Work collaboratively with the team to meet project deadlines.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
- Take direction from Paving Foreman.
- Assist with controlling traffic when needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and pack equipment away at the end of the day.
Experience & Education:
- Highschool Diploma or G.E.D equivalent
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in asphalt and paving required.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Valid Medical Certificate required, or ability obtain one.
- Bi-lingual preferred.
- Extremely safety-conscious.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Team-player.
- Strong work ethic and ability to lift heavy objects when necessary.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments.
Working Conditions:
- The physical work environment is outdoors, at various job sites. Physical demands of the position include sitting, standing, traversing, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and working in adverse weather conditions.
