About the Role
(This is a Temporary (6-mos.) position).
The Chaplain is a full member of the health care team who helps meet the spiritual needs, including pastoral counseling of patients, residents, clients, staff, families, and physicians of the St. Francis Healthcare System. Chaplains are available to persons of all ages from 0 to 100+. Specifically, the chaplain, through professional training, is a spiritual co-journeyer. The Chaplain responds compassionately, offering assistance in coping with experiences and enhancing wellbeing, especially spiritual wellbeing.
Essential Functions of the Job

Celebrates Sacraments as appropriate to clerical status.

Organizes and participates in prayer services and blessings.

Regularly visits patients and residents by referral.

Assesses spiritual needs of patients, residents, and families. (Hospice Only)

Offers spiritual ministry to patients, residents and families as requested.

Offers pastoral guidance to patients, residents and families as requested.

Participates in in-services and educational programs of department
-
Participates in committees, multi-disciplinary meetings and patient, resident, family conferences as required.

Establishes positive working relationships with members of the health care team including volunteers.

Trains and supervises department call-ins and volunteers. (Hospice)

Covers 24 hour "on-call" as scheduled

Is available to serve families of deceased patients, residents, and employees. (Hospice)

Participates in the clerical, administrative, and planning functions of the department.

Participates in the stewardship of fiscal and physical resources of the department.

Acts as a resource to persons within the St. Francis Healthcare System as required.

Participates in meetings, fairs, and education events of the St. Francis Healthcare System as required.

PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Educational Requirements: Four-year College Degree - general major. Requires basic knowledge or training in pastoral care, visiting the sick, attending to the spiritual needs of patients and families, knowledge or training in "Caring for the Caregiver". The Chaplain has completed a curriculum of theological classes, competencies in spiritual care for persons of all ages. At least one CPE Unit is expected.
Experience: One year of pastoral experience and good standing in the Church through ecclesiastical endorsement.

Speaks only English while in areas where patient care is delivered or wherever patients or apparent family members/friends are present or within hearing range, unless patient requires the use of another language.

Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, staff, and anthers using a humanistic attitude (anticipates needs, respectful, caring, courteous).

- Demonstrates computer competency in word processing and patient census database system.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record, as evidenced by current driver's abstract.

Personal car available for work with required automobile insurance.
Communication and Contacts:
Requires contacts both inside and outside the clients’ homes and St. Francis facilities in order to furnish or obtain information and/or provide patient care. Normal courtesy, tact and discretion required. Must be able to listen/understand what the patient needs are and clearly communicate with the patients and their family members.
