Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is a hybrid position intended primarily for candidates located in the New York tri-state area, with an expectation of working from our Brooklyn office approximately three days per week.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures; reviewing client write-ups and financial statements; supervising junior accounting staff; and ensuring that client work is completed accurately and on time.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who has strong public accounting experience, can independently manage client engagements, and enjoys working closely with both clients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Period-End Closings
Manage and review monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures for assigned clients, including:
- Bank and balance-sheet reconciliations
- Accruals and adjusting journal entries
- Review and cleanup of general ledger activity
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable review
- Payroll and other account reconciliations
- Final review of financial statements for accuracy and completeness
Write-Up and Accounting Review
Review client bookkeeping and write-up work prepared by junior staff, identify errors or missing information, and ensure that all necessary adjustments are properly recorded.
Financial Statement Preparation and Review
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and other supporting schedules.
Ensure that financial reports meet firm standards and clearly present the client’s financial position and operating results.
Staff Supervision
Supervise, train, and mentor junior accounting staff. Review their work, provide clear feedback, assist with technical questions, and help ensure that assignments are completed accurately and efficiently.
Client Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients regarding accounting, financial reporting, and period-end closing matters. Communicate directly with clients by phone, email, video conference, and in person to obtain information, resolve accounting issues, explain financial results, and recommend necessary adjustments. The Senior Accountant may also be required to visit client offices or business locations within the New York tri-state area when an in-person meeting, accounting review, or on-site support is needed.
Quality Control and Compliance
Maintain strong quality-control standards and ensure that client work complies with applicable accounting requirements, firm policies, and established internal procedures.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve and streamline accounting, closing, review, and reporting processes. Help develop more efficient workflows and stronger internal procedures as the firm continues to grow.
Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in public accounting
- Strong experience with monthly and period-end closing procedures
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
- Experience reviewing bookkeeping and write-up work
- Ability to supervise and train junior accounting staff
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines
- Tax preparation or tax review experience is preferred
- CPA license or progress toward CPA licensure is a plus

Schedule and Location
- Full-time
- Monday through Friday
- Hybrid position
- Approximately three days per week in our Brooklyn, New York office
- Candidates located within the New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut tri-state area are preferred
- Occasional local travel to client locations may be required
Compensation
$100,000–$150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
