We are partnering with a prestigious hospital in Southern New Hampshire to find an experienced and strategic Director of Throughput and Capacity Management to lead patient flow operations.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the movement of patients throughout the hospital, from admission to discharge, ensuring every transition is safe, efficient, and delivered with compassion. Partnering closely with hospitalist medicine, care coordination, and nursing leadership, you'll drive the strategies that keep the hospital running at its best for patients and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage patient throughput operations, overseeing admissions, discharges, and transfers to ensure efficient bed utilization and resource allocation
- Collaborate closely with Hospitalist Medicine and Care Coordination teams
- Provide direct oversight of the Discharge Lounge and Multidisciplinary Rounds
- Partner with nursing supervisors and leadership to monitor bed availability and optimize patient placement
- Facilitate capacity huddles and code purple events to keep patient flow moving smoothly
- Work with transport teams and admission/discharge RNs to streamline discharges
- Own bed capacity management using established throughput tools and systems
- Serve as administrative liaison with external transport agencies and EMS partners
- Apply evidence-based research to shape policies, practices, and workflows that improve throughput
- Round in departments and attend MDRs to remove barriers to discharge, with authority to recommend plan adjustments in patients' best interest
- Manage budgets and resources related to patient flow operations; provide monthly updates to CFO and CNO
- Lead patient throughput initiatives and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress
- Present data analysis and KPI results at monthly throughput meetings
- Mentor healthcare team members and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks in patient flow across departments
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in patient throughput
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies
- Train and support staff on throughput policies and procedures
- Maintain nursing competencies as needed to support the broader care team
Requirements:
- Registered Nurse, graduate of an approved clinical nursing program
- Current NH RN License required
- BSN required; MSN preferred
- Minimum of 7 years clinical experience preferred; supervisory or bed placement/throughput experience a plus
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record preferred
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
- Clinical specialty or nursing leadership certification preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above.

Pay: $107,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
