Assistant Teacher: Primary Classroom
Compensation: $15.00-$16.00/hour, based on experience
Schedule: Mondays–Thursdays, ~8:15 a.m.–2:45 p.m.

Position Summary
The Assistant Teacher works cooperatively with the Lead Teacher, preparing and maintaining a nurturing learning environment. The Assistant Teacher has experience in working with children, and shows evidence of understanding Montessori philosophy and classroom management.
About Us
Goshen Montessori Preschool (GMP) is an inviting and inclusive early childhood program rooted in Montessori philosophy. We serve children ages 18 months to 6 years, fostering independence, curiosity, and joyful learning in a peaceful, respectful environment.
We are currently hiring an Assistant Teacher to join our teaching team. This position will be placed in our Primary classroom, serving children ages 3-6years of age.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting students and overseeing the class while the Lead Teacher offers presentations with individual children and small groups.
- Redirecting children towards positive classroom engagement during the class time.
- Helping to keep the classroom, supplies, and equipment clean (sanitized and tidy before, during, and after class).
- Helping children with personal health, hygiene, and care (washing hands, basic first aid/care etc.).
- Supporting children with bathroom needs (recognizing if a child may need to use the restroom, getting them to restroom, helping them use the bathroom/change into clean clothes, changing diapers/pull-ups, assisting with potty training support).
- Developing positive, respectful relationships with the children.
- Communicating regularly with the Lead Teacher.
- Maintaining positive communication with other staff, students, and families.
- Participating in staff training as required (attending staff meetings, required training/certifications etc.).
- Attending school events as required (e.g. field trips, graduation, open houses, class parties).
Qualifications
- High school diploma. Associates/Bachelors degree preferred.
- The Assistant Teacher will maintain current certifications and training as required by IN FSSA, including Universal Precautions, CPR, First Aid, etc.
- Early childhood teaching and caregiving experience.
- Personal and professional qualities that make a good fit with the Goshen Montessori Preschool program including faithful work attendance, honesty, integrity, patience, and a calm demeanor.
- The Assistant Teacher is committed to professional development and program improvement.
- Commitment to collaboration, professional development, and the mission of GMP.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Ability to transition between standing, sitting on the floor, and sitting in child-height chairs throughout the day.
- Active supervision and engagement in both classroom and playground settings.
