The Parks and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Sports Officials to support our youth and adult sports programming. Ensure safe and fun play in our sports leagues while mentoring the next generation of referees. DEFINITIONUnder direction from the Recreation Coordinator, officiates at sport games including but not limited to: basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer and flag football and performs related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: explains rules to playersenforces rules and regulations pertaining to facility use, safety and the game acts as referee at scheduled games settles disputes following established procedurestakes and enforces disciplinary action when necessary according to established proceduresassists in securing premisesattends meetings and trainings as requiredmaintains a safe play environmentmay assist in securing, removing and storing field and sport equipment after the gamesmay work with a partner or alone EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSKnowledge ofsport rules, regulations and officiating techniques and official’s role and duties for softball, knowledge of rules, regulations and umpire techniques of the Amateur Softball AssociationAbility tocommunicate effectivelyability to make quick and accurate decisionsinteract effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individualseffectively deal with problems and conflict resolution techniquesconcentrate and complete tasks with many distractions read and understand written instructions; hear and understand verbal instructionsindependently initiate and complete work activitiesenforce and explain divisional sport rules and policiesrespond calmly and effectively to emergency situationsstand and run for long periods of timework outside and tolerate weather conditionsstay alert and concentrate on game during spectator activitybend and lift up to 40 lbs
