JOB Serves in a trainee capacity, receiving on-the-job training to learn the theories, techniques and methods used to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress; enforces pool safety regulations; maintains pool and pool area; performs pool lifeguard duties under immediate supervision; and performs other related duties as required.
There are four (4) immediate vacancies with the Department of Parks and Recreation - Aquatics Division in Kailua-Kona:

These Pool Lifeguard Trainee, SR-11 positions are career ladder positions. The next level in the series is Pool Lifeguard, SR-13, $3,900/month. Persons hired into career ladder positions must meet minimum qualifications for the next level in the career ladder series, perform work at the higher level, and meet performance requirements to move to the next level in the career ladder series.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Attends training sessions and participates in informal discussions, on-the-job training, practice drills and demonstrations concerning the theories, techniques and methods used to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress and first aid procedures and technique.

Familiarizes self with departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Provides information and assistance to the general public.

Maintains the pool and surrounding pool area.

Under immediate supervision, performs limited pool guarding duties.

May operate a vehicle to perform work-related travel.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
