Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sorter to join our environmental services team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for efficiently sorting recyclable materials, waste, and other items at various processing sites. Duties
- Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, forklifts, front loader trucks, roll-off trucks, and garbage trucks to handle recyclable and waste materials safely and efficiently
- Sort incoming recyclable materials and waste streams according to established guidelines and environmental regulations
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly at all times to ensure safety during material handling and outdoor work
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas by removing debris and ensuring proper disposal of non-recyclable or hazardous materials in compliance with hazardous materials regulations
- Assist in landfill management activities by monitoring material flow, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting sanitation efforts
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment to ensure mechanical functionality and report any maintenance needs promptly
- Follow safety regulations diligently to prevent accidents, injuries, or environmental violations during all operations
Experience
- Prior experience operating loaders, excavators, forklifts, or other heavy machinery preferred but not required; training will be provided for qualified candidates
- Demonstrated outdoor work experience in environments involving solid waste management or recycling facilities
- Knowledge of recycling processes, recyclable materials handling, and landfill operations is advantageous
- Familiarity with safety regulations related to heavy equipment operation, hazardous materials handling, and environmental compliance
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently throughout the shift
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify equipment issues and assist in basic troubleshooting
- Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment at all times
Pay: $16.00 - $16.50 per hour
