Job Summary
This certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for the hearing impaired is responsible assisting patients, families and companions with limited English proficiency interpreting when they are communicating with the Physician, nurses or any other healthcare provider. Assists in overseeing the Language Assistance Program, including interpretation and translation device management, staff education and ensuring patients and families with varying preferred languages are satisfied with the care and communication being provided.
Essential Functions
- 1. Interprets (spoken language) for patients, families and companions.
- 2. Acts as a liaison between patient / family / companions and organization by interpreting, explaining and navigating the organization’s policies and procedures.
- 3. Participates in departmental QI process as it relates to the provision of interpreter services, special needs and customer satisfaction.
- 4. Assist with Propio device management.
- 5. Round on all patients with a preferred language other than English.
- 6. Audit charts for Propio compliance and provide staff education.
7. Performs additional duties as related and assigned by Director of Patient Experience.

Qualifications
- High School Required
- Bachelor Degree Preferred
- 1-3 years Work experience as an ASL Interpreter Preferred
- American Sign Language ASL certification Required
