Position Summary
BHCA is seeking a reliable, hardworking Grounds Maintenance Worker to help care for our cemetery grounds. This role is essential to preserving the peaceful, respectful appearance our community depends on. Duties include mowing, trimming, planting, and general upkeep, as well as assisting with grave openings/closings, installing headstones, completing field work orders, and other grounds-related tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
● Mow, trim, and edge lawns and grounds on a regular schedule
● Maintain landscaping beds, trees, and shrubs (pruning, weeding, mulching, planting)
● Operate and maintain grounds equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, tampers, trucks)
● Assist with grave opening and closing preparation as directed
● Assist with marker installations and the completion of field work orders
● Perform general grounds cleanup, including litter and debris removal
● Maintain walkways, roadways, and drainage areas
● Set up and remove decorations seasonally
● Perform maintenance on grounds structures (fences, signage, benches)
● Report equipment issues, safety hazards, and grounds concerns to supervisor
● Assist with snow removal in winter months as needed
● Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
● Prior grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related experience preferred
● Ability to operate mowers, trimmers, and other power equipment safely
● Comfortable performing physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions
● Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
● Valid driver's license required
● Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
● Respectful demeanor appropriate for a cemetery setting, with sensitivity toward grieving families and visitors
Schedule
Full-Time
Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Some Saturday availability required to accommodate scheduled funerals (averages about once a month or less)
Compensation
$15/hour to start — higher hourly rate available for those opting out of employer-paid health insurance
