Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Superintendent to lead and oversee all mechanical construction activities on complex projects. This role is vital in ensuring that mechanical systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards. The Mechanical Superintendent will coordinate with project management, subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams to deliver successful project outcomes. Key ResponsibilitiesField Operations & Construction Management
- Lead and supervise all mechanical construction activities on data center projects.
- Coordinate daily activities of mechanical subcontractors and trade partners.
- Ensure work is performed according to contract documents, drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Monitor installation progress and implement corrective actions to maintain milestones.
- Conduct daily field walks to verify workmanship, productivity, and compliance.
- Coordinate mechanical scopes with electrical, structural, architectural, and commissioning teams.
- Identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and schedule impacts.
Data Center Mechanical Systems Oversight
Oversee installation and startup activities for:
- Chilled water systems
- Cooling towers
- Air handling units (AHUs)
- CRAH and CRAC units
- DX cooling systems
- Hydronic piping systems
- Plumbing systems
- Fuel oil systems
- Heat exchangers
- Pumps and associated equipment
- Mechanical equipment skids
- Building automation systems (BAS) coordination
- HVAC controls integration
- Water treatment systems
- Mission-critical cooling infrastructure
Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce a zero-incident safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety programs.
- Conduct safety meetings, pre-task planning sessions, and toolbox talks.
- Participate in site safety audits and inspections.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with all project safety requirements.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions as required.
Quality Control
- Verify installations meet project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and quality standards.
- Coordinate inspections and testing activities.
- Review and track mechanical quality issues through resolution.
- Support implementation of project quality management plans.
- Ensure accurate completion of punch lists and turnover documentation.
- Monitor installation tolerances and commissioning readiness.
Schedule Management
- Develop and maintain detailed mechanical installation schedules.
- Participate in pull-planning, look-ahead planning, and coordination meetings.
- Track manpower, productivity, and material delivery status.
- Identify schedule risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate equipment deliveries, rigging activities, and installation sequencing.
Commissioning & Turnover Support
- Support pre-functional and functional testing activities.
- Coordinate subcontractor participation during commissioning phases.
- Verify systems are complete and ready for testing.
- Assist in system startup, balancing, and validation activities.
- Manage punch list completion and project closeout requirements.
- Ensure turnover packages, O&M manuals, and as-built documentation are complete.
Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Interface with owners, engineers, commissioning agents, and project management teams.
- Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates.
- Communicate project challenges, risks, and solutions proactively.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and trade partners.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 7+ years of mechanical construction experience with at least 3 years in a superintendent or leadership role.
- Experience managing large-scale commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical infrastructure systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and BIM models.
- Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software.
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Pay: $110,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
