Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Alcohol and Drug Counselor(CASAC required) to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling, mental health support, and crisis intervention services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Duties
- Conduct thorough client assessments using diagnostic tools such as DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding to determine treatment needs and develop personalized care plans.
- Deliver individual and group therapy sessions utilizing behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and evidence-based practices to promote recovery and behavioral change.
- Facilitate crisis intervention and crisis management strategies to support clients experiencing acute mental health or substance use crises, ensuring safety and stabilization.
- Provide child & family counseling and case management services, including home & community care coordination, to support clients’ holistic recovery journeys.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation standards within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical documentation protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including social workers, medical professionals, and community resources—to coordinate patient care plans for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
- Engage in ongoing research and data collection efforts to evaluate treatment effectiveness, improve clinical practices, and stay current with addiction medicine advancements.
Skills
- Proficiency in psychotherapy techniques such as behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis.
- Strong experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, PTSD care needs, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Skilled in crisis intervention, crisis management, client assessment in therapy, and case management strategies.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9/10 coding systems (ICD coding), CPT coding for billing purposes, and familiarity with mental health diagnostic evaluation tools like DSM-5.
- Excellent communication skills for client engagement, education, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work effectively with patients using Electronic Health Records (EHR/EHR) systems while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
- Experience working in hospital settings or community-based environments providing mental health and behavioral care services.
- Capable of managing clinical documentation according to healthcare standards while supporting patients through intake processes and ongoing treatment planning.
