Role Overview
The Copy Editor is responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, consistency, and readability of instructional content, storyboards, Canvas pages, and learning materials for the project. Working across multiple modules, the Copy Editor serves as the final quality check before content moves to development, ensuring compliance with project style standards, U.S. English conventions, accessibility guidelines, and instructional quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit content for U.S. English grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, tone, and consistency.
- Review instructional materials for readability, active voice, inclusive language, and age-appropriate communication.
- Ensure consistent terminology, formatting, style, and branding across all learning materials.
- Identify and correct language, formatting, and accessibility issues before development.
- Maintain project style guides, terminology lists, and editorial standards.
- Collaborate with instructional designers and SMEs to resolve editorial issues and improve content quality.
- Support quality assurance by reviewing storyboards, assessments, and learning assets for consistency and accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a related field.
- 3–6 years of professional copy editing or technical editing experience in curriculum development, instructional design, publishing, or eLearning.
- Excellent command of U.S. English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style (Chicago, AP, or equivalent).
- Experience editing educational or instructional content with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive language best practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
