Prominent NYS law firm seeks a full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal to provide comprehensive support to attorneys in their School Buffalo office. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and possesses excellent communication and administrative skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment. This position provides direct support to attorneys representing public school districts, boards of education, and other educational institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, memoranda, contracts, policies, pleadings, discovery materials, and other legal documents.
- Prepare and file documents with New York State and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies, including NYSED, EEOC, and PERB.
- Conduct legal research, assist with cite-checking, and maintain familiarity with school law terminology and procedures.
- Coordinate attorney calendars, including client meetings, hearings, court appearances, deadlines, and other scheduling needs.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with firm policies.
- Communicate with clients, including school districts, boards of education, and administrators, to coordinate document collection, signatures, scheduling, and follow-up.
- Monitor and track deadlines for education-related matters, including grievances, disciplinary hearings, FOIL requests, and board of education meetings.
- Assist in preparing hearing binders, exhibits, presentation materials, and meeting packets.
- Record and monitor billable time and assist with monthly billing activities.
- Perform general administrative duties, including scanning, copying, mail processing, filing, and telephone coverage.
- Complete additional assignments and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant; experience in education law, labor and employment law, or litigation is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and document management software.
- Working knowledge of New York State legal procedures and court and administrative agency filing requirements.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, and administrative agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Pay: $56,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
