American Traveler is hiring an experienced Operating Room RN requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and 2+ years of OR experience with strong orthopedic and GYN skills.

Operating Room unit functioning similarly to an ambulatory surgery center within a freestanding medical facility
-
Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
-
1:1 patient ratio
-
General OR case types including abdominal, orthopedic, GYN, urology, and plastics procedures
-
4x10 Day shift schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM with flexible scheduling
-
40 hours per week

13-week contract length
-
No weekend requirements
-
No on-call requirements
-
Holiday coverage required as scheduled

May be required to float to the Main Capital Region campus general OR as needed

Epic charting system preferred
-
Active RN license (MD or Compact) required
-
BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)

CNOR and NIHSS certifications preferred

Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required

Strong OR skill set with proficiency in orthopedic and GYN cases required

Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Community hospital experience preferred

Trauma Level II experience preferred

Epic EMR experience preferred

Skills in gynecologic procedures including hysterectomy, colporrhaphy, tubal ligation, D&C, and laparoscopic-assisted procedures
-
Skills in orthopedic procedures including ACL reconstruction, arthroscopy, arthrotomy, and total joint replacement
-
Proficiency in general surgery procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, and hernia repair
-
Experience with equipment including cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, Hana table, and Steris systems
-
Knowledge of emergency management protocols including code response, fire safety, and malignant hyperthermia
-
Provide direct perioperative nursing care across a range of surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedics, GYN, urology, and plastics
-
Perform scrub and circulating duties as needed for various surgical procedures
-
Follow Universal Protocol (time out) procedures for all surgical cases
-
Administer blood and blood products and monitor cardiac status and conscious sedation as needed
-
Perform peripheral IV starts, urinary catheterization, and wound management
-
Adhere to infection control, laser safety, and radiation safety protocols
-

Candidates must be comfortable floating within scope with no restrictions

Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility unless otherwise specified
-
Maximum 7 days of RTO can be requested per contract
-
One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted depending on unit needs
-
Returning staff members must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler

Returning travelers must have at least 6 months away from the system after completing an assignment before returning
-
Typically allows one contract plus one extension before requiring a 6-month break from the facility/unit
