Job Summary:
As a Journeyman Refrigeration Technician, you will service, troubleshoot, and maintain a wide range of commercial refrigeration systems across restaurants, convenience stores, schools, hospitals, laboratories, and other commercial facilities. This hands-on role requires strong diagnostic skills, a commitment to quality workmanship, and the ability to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
You'll work on a diverse range of equipment, including walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in units, ice machines, blast chillers, ultra-low temperature freezers, laboratory refrigeration systems, and more. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to apply your technical expertise while delivering exceptional service to customers who rely on these critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Repairs & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and repair refrigeration system malfunctions, including compressors, motors, expansion valves, and electrical controls.
- Identify and fix leaks, replace worn components, and ensure systems operate within manufacturer specifications.
- Utilize specialized tools, such as meters, refrigerant recovery equipment and pressure gauges, for accurate diagnostics.
Compliance & Safety:
- Follow local, state, and federal regulations regarding refrigerant handling (EPA Section 608 Certification required).
- Adhere to workplace safety standards, including OSHA guidelines, to prevent hazards such as electrical shocks or refrigerant exposure.
- Maintain accurate service records, including work performed, refrigerant usage, and system performance reports.
Customer Service & Communication:
- Provide professional customer service when interacting with clients and explaining repair needs.
- Recommend system upgrades or preventative maintenance solutions to extend equipment life.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding job progress and technical issues.
Qualifications & Skills:
- EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in refrigeration repair
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools used in refrigeration work.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment (50+ lbs.).
- Work in various environments, including cold storage facilities, restaurants, grocery stores, and outdoor locations.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, refrigerants, and electrical components.
- May require on-call availability, overtime, and travel to job sites in a company-provided vehicle.
