Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and self-motivated Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician to support and grow our in-house vehicle maintenance operations. This is a unique opportunity for someone who is comfortable working independently and wants to play a key role in building a maintenance program from the ground up.
This position will be responsible for maintaining our fleet of tractor trailers, box trucks, refrigerated units, and light-duty vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, reliable, and operational. The role offers a wide range of hands-on work—from routine maintenance to major repairs—with the opportunity to take full ownership of fleet performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesFleet Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance on tractor trailers, box trucks, refrigerated units, and smaller vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs as needed
- Handle a wide range of repairs, from tire changes and routine service to major engine work and rebuilds
- Perform maintenance and repairs on Thermo King refrigeration units (reefer units)
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet safety and operational standards
Shop & Maintenance Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Track maintenance schedules and service intervals
- Manage tools, parts, and equipment needed for repairs
- Coordinate outsourced repairs when necessary
Program Development & Growth
- Help build and establish an in-house maintenance program
- Create and improve maintenance processes and systems
- Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and increase fleet efficiency
- Opportunity to grow into a lead mechanic or shop manager role
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working on diesel engines, tractor trailers, or similar vehicles
- Ability to perform both basic maintenance and advanced mechanical repairs
- Experience or willingness to learn Thermo King (reefer) maintenance and repair
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and safety-focused
- Must have own tools
Preferred Certifications (Not Required but Strongly Valued)
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications (T-Series)
- T2 (Diesel Engines) and T8 (Preventative Maintenance) highly preferred
- ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician (a plus)
- Manufacturer Certifications (Cummins, Detroit Diesel, CAT, PACCAR, etc.)
- Thermo King Certification or Reefer Experience (a strong plus)
- EPA 609 Certification (for HVAC systems)
- DOT Brake Inspector Certification
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) (helpful but not required)
Compensation
Pay varies based on experience and skill level, typically ranging from:
- $18 – $24/hour (entry-level)
- $24 – $32/hour (mid-level)
- $32 – $40+ /hour (experienced)
Higher compensation available for candidates with strong diagnostic ability, engine rebuild experience, and reefer/Thermo King experience.
