Position Overview:
The Electrical Engineer at Composite Motors Inc. is responsible for designing and developing BLDC motor controllers and test equipment, performing hands-on prototype development and production support, applying electrical theory to test and modify electrical machinery, collaborating on problem-solving, preparing documentation and cost estimates, and ensuring compliance with ISO 13485 and regulatory standards in a high-tech manufacturing environment for medical and aerospace industries.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design and develop BLDC motor controller circuits, PCBs, electrical systems, and related test equipment using Altium and applicable engineering tools.
- Develop products using a phase-gate design control process, including design inputs and outputs, requirements traceability, DFMEA, PFMEA, verification planning, and supporting documentation.
- Assemble, troubleshoot, modify, and evaluate electrical and electronic prototypes, assemblies, and systems using engineering data, hand tools, and calibrated measuring instruments.
- Develop and execute test plans to verify design outputs, evaluate system performance under simulated operating conditions, analyze results, and resolve design-related issues.
- Set up, operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical test equipment and instrumentation, including LabVIEW-based test systems where applicable.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, production, and other personnel to identify, define, and resolve technical issues during product development and production support.
- Prepare engineering documentation, test records, IQ/OQ/PQ procedures, cost estimates, and work-time estimates as required to support development, validation, and production activities.
- Apply logic, engineering judgment, and structured problem-solving methods to evaluate alternatives and recommend practical solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, circuit design, PCB layout, electronic components, processors, embedded hardware, and related software tools.
- Experience applying engineering methods, design tools, and technical documentation practices to the design, development, testing, and production support of electrical or electronic products.
- Ability to read, create, and interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications, test procedures, and engineering records.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control practices, cost considerations, and equipment used in a regulated production environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, recognize potential issues, analyze data, and support corrective actions using sound engineering judgment.
Additional Qualifications:
- Close visual acuity and fine motor skills sufficient to inspect, handle, manipulate, and assemble small electrical or electronic components.
- Ability to maintain hand and arm steadiness while performing detailed assembly, inspection, troubleshooting, or test activities.
- Firmware development experience, particularly with BLDC motor controllers using TI or STMicroelectronics platforms, is preferred.
