Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic, energetic Head Coach to lead our Middle School Boys Flag Football program. This position is vital to Pilgrim Athletics, as they will lead the development and implementation of Boys Flag Football programming at our school. As the Head Coach, you will oversee the entire Middle School Boys Flag Football program, including strategic planning, player development, and fostering a positive team culture. Extended Opportunity: For candidates possessing advanced coaching experience and strategic expertise, there may be an additional opportunity to continue with Pilgrim Athletics as our Varsity Girls Flag Football Head Coach during the Spring. We welcome candidates interested in either the single-season middle school role or the multi-season path.
Major Areas of Responsibility
● Serve as Head Coach to our Middle School Boys Flag Football team
● Organize, coordinate, and lead daily practice sessions - training, motivating, and preparing for competition
● Create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate space for all student-athletes
● Supervise student-athletes, accompanying them on all trips and activities
● Communicate team schedules and updates to parents and families
● Demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, and community relations, and be a positive role model for all students
● Implement athletic department philosophy and adhere to league constitution and bylaws
● Support the growth and development of fl ag football at Pilgrim, establishing and maintaining relationships with the broader football community
● Proactive and open communication with the Director of Athletics on all issues
● Remain current on changes in rules, coaching techniques, and technology
● If Applicable: Assume Head Coaching responsibilities for the Varsity Girls Flag Football program in Spring 2027
Required Qualifications
● Prior fl ag football coaching experience and a comprehensive knowledge of coaching strategies, play design, rule variants, and game tactics
● Prior experience working with middle school students, with a commitment to sport-based youth development principles that prioritize holistic growth alongside athletic skill
● Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations and ability to foster inclusion, engagement, and joy in youth sports
● Knowledge of CIF rules and regulations governing high school sports in California
● Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of students, officials, coaches, and community members
● Basic First Aid and CPR certifi cation (or willingness to obtain before the start of the season)
● Must successfully complete all State of California required background checks

Preferred Background
● Previous experience working directly with youth or adolescents in an educational, athletic, or supervisory capacity (e.g., camp counselor, tutor, coaching assistant, or youth mentor)
● Direct personal participation in interscholastic or collegiate athletics (high school or college level), demonstrating an understanding of the student-athlete experience, team dynamics, and academic balance
● A demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for youth sports development and the mission of using competitive athletics as a platform for teaching life skills, resilience, and character development.
● Familiarity with the structure, culture, and high academic demands of a college-preparatory independent school environment is highly desirable
Compensation
Stipends are distributed seasonally according to the school’s athletic calendar:
● Middle School Boys Base Stipend (Fall): $3,500
● Varsity Girls Base Stipend (Optional Add-On): $3,500
● Postseason Bonus: An additional $500 performance-based bonus is available in the Fall and the Spring. We celebrate postseason advancement as a tangible reward for our student-athletes' dedication to growth and teamwork
● Additional stipend opportunities may be available for candidates interested in coaching at other levels or supporting additional school teams throughout the academic year
Timeline and Start Date
Please note that employment is subject to Live Scan clearance and reference checks prior to beginning employment. The start date for this position is September 2026, continuing through the end of the Boys Flag Football season, with an option to extend through the Spring varsity season.
