Job Summary
Lapham-Hickey Steel – Columbus Division is hiring an Industrial Maintenance Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment at our steel fabrication plant in Columbus, Ohio. This is a hands-on, highly diversified role supporting the full range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems across the facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain all machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of all equipment as required to maintain production and performs scheduled maintenance or repairs of equipment during machine service intervals.
- Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities (benchwork as needed).
- Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of all machines and tools.
- Read and interpret manuals, prints, schematics, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and adjust as needed.
- Learn to use and implement the current Asset management/Maintenance program software (i.e. CMMS).
- Perform regular and scheduled preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities as needed.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Detect faulty operations, defective material, safety issues and report/repair those and any unusual situations to proper supervision upon discovery or repair.
- Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of other employees, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace while maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
- Wears approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and other task specific PPE.
- Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor, lead person or management.
Skills
- Previous maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of fabrication equipment including saws, press brakes, lasers, plasma equipment, and material handling systems is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes with related equipment and forklifts is preferred.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
- Ability to perform math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions as well as converting fractions to decimals or vice versa.
- Ability to lift and move up to seventy-five pounds, as well as lift and move heavier objects with the assistance of equipment or another employee.
- Knowledge of general shop procedures and rules including safety precautions.
- Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and work as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions may consist of loud noise, vibratory tools, repetitive motions, airborne particles such as metal dust and chips and exposure to chemicals such as soaps, oils and detergents. Physical requirements include continual standing, walking, lifting, twisting with periodic bending, climbing, stooping, crawling, and crouching.

Pay: $23.00 - $28.50 per hour
