Material Planner

The material planner's responsibilities include determining material requirements, creating and maintaining production schedules, while coordinating with internal departments to achieve production goals. This position requires the individual to be present in the office five days a week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, directs, and controls activities related to the production planning and scheduling function to achieve on time delivery and inventory goals. Generates master production schedules for each manufacturing area.
- Acts as a liaison with manufacturing, sales, engineering, purchasing and other related departments on matters pertaining to schedules, production, methods, materials and designs to resolve day-to-day production problems.
- Keeps schedules valid based on schedule execution feedback from manufacturing and purchasing.
- Direct responsibility in the material planning role for implementation of SAP.
- Responsible for working with manufacturing to meet inventory accuracy goals.
- Responsible for managing the excess inventory program.
- Develops capacity-based production plans that meet customer requirements and support on-time delivery and inventory goals.
- Performs capacity planning techniques, both at the Master Production Schedule level and at the shop order level to ensure resources are in place to support the master production schedule.
- Manages the purchase part planning and shop scheduling functions.
- Responsible for maintenance of all databases required to maintain material systems and inventory.
- Maintain minimum and maximum inventory quantities necessary to maintain smooth material flow and increase inventory turns.
- Monitors and maintains Key Metrics goals for the Material Department and issues corrective action for non-compliance.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in using Material Requirements Planning (MPR) systems is essential. Having prior SAP experience is a plus, with awareness of the nuances and behaviors of SAP.
- Detail oriented and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate knowledge and proven success in inventory reduction.
- Proven ability and success in cost reduction strategy development and execution.
- Minimum 3 years planning experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Must have working knowledge of standard inventory control procedures.
- Computer proficient in MS Office and can format charts and spreadsheets.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate knowledge and proven success in inventory reduction.
