Signal Technician Il—This is the full journey level class within the signal technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Signal Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level or when filled from the outside, require prior experience.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Signal Supervisor or other upper level staff.
May exercise functional and technical supervision over lower level signal maintenance staff.
Flexibly adapt to a variety of work situations and interruptions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
— making observations reading and writing
— communicating with others
— detecting equipment inadequacies and malfunctions — operating assigned equipment.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
— walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time
— lifting and carrying traffic signal and overhead sign equipment and materials — stooping, bending and kneeling during work activities — operating assigned equipment and city vehicles.
Effectively deal with personal danger which may include exposure to:
— high work places
— electrical hazards hazards associated with traffic and working in and near traffic.
Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve:
— outdoor work in all types of weather conditions including temperature extremes high levels of public contact — exposure to dust and dirt — noise.
Maintain mental capacity which permits:
— making-sound decisions and using good judgement — demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Experience:
One year of increasingly responsible experience in installation, maintenance and repair of electric, electronic and digital signal control devices comparable to that of a Signal Technician I in the City of Jackson, Mississippi.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in electronics or a related field. An Associates' degree is highly desirable.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, commercial, Mississippi driver's license
