Position Summary
Applicant MUST live in the Ashland area and work full time in person
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Detailer to produce accurate 2D and 3D shop and erection drawings for structural steel projects. This is primarily an office position, but the successful candidate must be comfortable performing field measurements in varied conditions (ladders, tight/dirty spaces, outdoor sites). You will work closely with fabricators, welders, project managers, and engineers to ensure constructible, code‑compliant deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D structural steel drawings using AutoCAD and compatible detailing/modeling software.
- Prepare shop drawings, connection details, BOMs, and part lists.
- Interpret structural plans, plate schedules, and engineering notes to produce fabrication-ready details.
- Verify connection types and common fabrication practices to ensure fit-up, weld access, and erection sequence.
- Conduct field visits to take measurements and verify site conditions; record and communicate required changes.
- Coordinate revisions with engineers, fabricators, and erectors; maintain drawing revision control.
- Assist estimating and production teams with takeoffs and clarifications as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience detailing structural steel (shop and erection drawings).
- Proficient with AutoCAD; experience with 3D modeling/detailing software
- Solid understanding of typical steel connections, welds, bolts, plates, and erection practices.
- Comfortable performing field measurements in a variety of conditions (ladders, confined/tight spaces, outdoor sites).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and ability to work independently and in a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent with technical certificate or degree in drafting/engineering technology
Preferred
- Experience working in a fabrication shop environment.
- Familiarity with shop workflows, nesting/CAM interfaces, and material handling constraints.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders, enter confined/tight spaces, and work outdoors when required.
- Able to lift and carry moderate items occasionally (per company safety policy).
