We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Senior Accountant
(20-25 hours/week) to provide accounting and financial support across a diverse portfolio of clients. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys variety, works well independently, and is comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for a broad range of accounting, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, and compliance functions while serving as a trusted accounting resource to clients and internal stakeholders.
This is a part-time remote position with a need to be available in-person one afternoon each week.
Candidate must be within a reasonable distance to Greenville, SC for in-person meetings.
Essential Duties & Functions
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities for assigned clients
- Maintain accurate, organized accounting records and supporting documentation
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoices, deposits, credit card transactions, and other accounting activities
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collections
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare journal entries and support month-end and year-end close processes
- Review financial activity for accuracy, completeness, and unusual variances
- Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules
- Prepare financial information and reports for leadership and board-level review
- Assist with annual budgeting and periodic financial forecasting
- Analyze financial results, trends, and key performance indicators
- Provide accounting and financial insights to support organizational decision-making
- Process payroll and assist with related payroll tax reporting
- Record and reconcile payroll-related benefits and expenses
- Support workers' compensation reporting, renewals, and audits
- Prepare and coordinate annual 1099 reporting
- Assist with other tax, regulatory, and compliance-related accounting requirements
- Track and report grant and restricted funding activity as applicable
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
- Support lease accounting and related reporting
- Assist with construction accounting and project-related financial reporting
- Support preparation of information required for annual tax filings and external review
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as a liaison with external auditors
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and internal team members
- Respond to client questions and requests in a timely and professional manner
- Provide backup support to other team members as needed
- Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
- Experience preparing financial statements and management reports
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to effectively communicate with and support multiple clients in a remote environment
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting preferred
- Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax compliance preferred
- Experience working in an outsourced accounting, public accounting, or client-service environment preferred
