About the Role
The Human Resources Generalist serves as the primary HR point of contact for WITRON employees in California. This role partners closely with operations and leadership teams to ensure compliance with California employment law, support positive labor relations, and drive effective human resources strategies.
The ideal candidate brings strong California HR expertise, experience in unionized environments, and the ability to balance strategic initiatives with hands-on HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Partnership

Align HR strategies with operational and business objectives.

Partner with site and regional leadership to identify workforce trends and recommend solutions.

Support organizational change initiatives and workforce planning efforts.
Talent Management & Retention
-
Develop and implement employee retention strategies for hourly and salaried populations.

Support leadership with talent assessments, succession planning, and employee development.

Advise on performance management best practices.
Employee & Labor Relations
-
Advise managers and employees on employee relations issues, corrective actions, and conflict resolution.

Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and applicable labor laws.

Partner with union representatives to maintain positive labor relations.

Support or represent the company in employee investigations, hearings, and grievance processes, as needed.

Train managers on effective employee and union relations practices.
Performance Management

Assist with performance reviews, documentation, corrective actions, and performance improvement plans.

Support managers in setting expectations, coaching, and addressing performance concerns.
HR Policies, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure HR policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local laws, with a strong emphasis on California employment regulations.

Provide guidance on policy interpretation and consistent application.

Support compliance efforts related to wage and hour laws, leaves of absence, accommodations, and employee classifications.
HR Data & Reporting

Utilize HRIS systems to track metrics and generate reports.

Analyze HR data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
Culture, Engagement & Safety

Lead employee engagement initiatives that support a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Support employee feedback efforts, including surveys and action plans.

Enforce company safety policies and report noncompliance concerns to operations leadership.

Assist with safety incident reporting and workers’ compensation coordination.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of human resources best practices and employment laws.

Working knowledge of California labor and employment laws is required.

Proven experience advising leaders on HR practices and workforce solutions.

Experience working in a unionized environment and with collective bargaining agreements is strongly preferred.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Strong problem-solving, judgment, and conflict resolution skills.

Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.

Flexible schedule with the ability to respond to after-hours issues when necessary.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

2+ years of HR experience, preferably in operations or manufacturing environments.
-
HR certification preferred (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent).
Physical & Travel Requirements

Ability to travel domestically to U.S. sites.
-
Occasional international travel may be required.
-
Must be able to work on-site daily.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $70,304k - $81,000k
-
Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, paid time off, and additional company-sponsored benefits.
