Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate manual handling techniques, forklifts, or other equipment as needed, including hazardous materials (hazmat) and dangerous goods.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems to plan optimal routes for timely deliveries while managing route driving schedules.
- Transport a variety of cargo such as refrigerated goods, automobile transportation units, freight containers, or specialized loads like tanker or flatbed shipments.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer or other equipment to ensure safety and compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Load and unload cargo at multiple destinations, ensuring proper securing of freight to prevent damage during transit.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery schedules and resolve any logistical issues promptly.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience with over-the-road (OTR) driving routes preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving and route driving with tractor-trailers or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols related to truck loading/unloading and manual handling.
- Ability to operate various types of trucks such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or specialty vehicles like forklift-equipped trucks.
- Skilled in GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning and navigation across diverse terrains.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling processes including freight management for hazardous goods or dangerous materials.
- Excellent driving skills with an emphasis on safety, manual transmission operation, and adherence to all federal and state transportation laws.
