Valencia County Literacy Council (VCLC) has provided free adult literacy and English language instruction to residents of Valencia County, New Mexico since 1987. We serve approximately 84 adult learners per year across three community sites in a rural, majority-Hispanic county where more than 35% of adults read at or below Level 1. We are the only adult literacy provider in our service area. Our VISTA Program Outreach Coordinator will spend one year building the infrastructure that lets VCLC reach more learners, retain more tutors, and run reliably as a small nonprofit across a geographically dispersed county. The member will develop a deployment system for our mobile Literacy Library, document workflows for program data entry and tutor coordination, create bilingual communications tools and a partner contact database, and develop grant support resources for staff use. This is a strong position for someone interested in nonprofit administration, community outreach, or adult education. The member works directly with VCLC leadership, participates in organizational planning and development, and leaves with skills that transfer to careers in the nonprofit sector. Bilingual English/Spanish required. VCLC is in Los Lunas, New Mexico, in the greater Albuquerque metro area. Members receive a living allowance, health coverage, education award or end of service stipend, relocation assistance, childcare assistance if eligible, and training.
