Overview:
Blackwater Industries is a steel fabrication facility. We are seeking a full-time helper for our growing sandblasting and industrial coatings team. This role reports to the shop manager and is responsible for abrasive blasting and surface preparation in compliance with project specifications and inspection requirements.
When blasting and painting work is not scheduled, this position will support general shop operations as a shop helper. This is a hands-on role in an industrial environment with a strong focus on quality, safety, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform abrasive blasting to required surface preparation standards
- Apply industrial coatings per manufacturer data sheets and job specifications
- Complete and maintain coating reports and blasting documentation required for industrial paint inspections
- Ensure coatings meet thickness, adhesion, and quality requirements
- Set up, maintain, and clean blasting and painting equipment
- Assist with loading, unloading, and material handling
- Support welders, fitters, and fabricators during non-coating periods
- Clean parts with a grinder when necessary
- Perform general shop cleanup, organization, and maintenance tasks
- Operate forklifts and assist with job inventory tracking as required
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and shop policies
Required Experience:
- Experience working in a fabrication shop, manufacturing environment, or industrial setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of experience in sandblasting, industrial painting, or surface preparation
- Familiarity with industrial coatings, surface prep standards, or coating inspections
- Forklift experience or certification

- Physical ability to perform manual labor in an industrial environment

- Willingness to assist with general shop duties
