Position Title: Shelter Coordinator (Part-time)
Job Description: Shelter Coordinators are case managers who help guide our families from homelessness to permanent housing.
A typical day working as a Shelter Coordinator includes:
- Screening potential clients by completing phone intakes and answering calls for shelter
- Completing intake paperwork with new families entering shelter and helping them get settled
- Helping families create and follow a Housing Plan to reach permanent housing
- Helping families create budgets in order to identify affordable housing
- Completing Daily Plans with clients to ensure they are staying on track with their housing and employment goals
- Communicating client progress through resident file case notes, entries in our staff communication log, and verbal shift exchange with other Shelter Coordinators
- Ensuring clients are contributing to a safe and healthy living environment
- Providing resources and referrals to other local agencies
- Handing out supplies such as hygiene items and bus tokens
- Assisting families with the moving process and providing household items for their new home
- Light cleaning and organizing such as laundry and storing donations
- Occasionally making dinner for clients when volunteers are not scheduled
- Answering incoming phone calls, assisting volunteers, and accepting donations
Schedule: Our part-time Shelter Coordinators will alternate weekly shifts of Saturday & Sunday 7:45am-3:45pm and Saturday & Sunday 3pm-11pm. Part-time Shelter Coordinators also share weekly on-call duties. Part-time Shelter Coordinators will often work at the shelter independently without other staff or volunteers present in the office. All Shelter Coordinators are required to attend weekly case management team meetings on Fridays from 1pm-4pm.
Holidays: Holiday shifts are distributed among our Shelter Coordinators. You can expect to work 4-5 holiday shifts per year. Some holidays are paid at a time and a half rate, while others are paid at a triple time rate.
Compensation and Benefits: The starting pay for Shelter Coordinators is $19-$21/hour.
Workplace Culture: Haven House employs a small but diverse staff of eleven. While our positions vary in specialty areas from case management to fundraising, we all communicate and collaborate with each other in order to fulfill our mission. Some of our current staff members started their career at Haven House as Shelter Coordinators. We keep things fun in our office by holding monthly staff lunches to celebrate staff birthdays, holidays, and work anniversaries.
Our Mission: The mission of Haven House is to guide and support families who face homelessness on their paths to stable homes.
Population Served: Haven House shelters homeless families with children. Our capacity is normally seven families. We do not serve single homeless adults, single homeless youth, or individuals fleeing Domestic Violence Situations.
Education and other Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred. However, we do accept students who are actively attending school. Our part-time position is a great opportunity for students to gain experience in their field while completing their degree!
- Must pass Criminal Background Check
- One year of case management experience is preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to access and navigate different areas of the shelter including second floor residential areas and lower level communal and storage areas

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
