About the Office of Commissioner Rodney EllisThere are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.With approximately 1.17 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American, 38 percent Latino, 21 percent Anglo, 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple races. Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. The ideal candidate will safely transport children ages 5 to 13 to and from camp locations, ensuring a positive and secure travel experience. This role requires a mature individual who is attentive, organized, and enjoys working with youth. **This is a seasonal position starting June 1, 2026 and ending August 7, 2026**Essential Duties: Safely transport Discovery Camp participants (ages 5–13) to and from camp and designated pickup/drop-off locationsPrepare and serve lunch for campers, including items such as hot dogs, chips, and cookiesCreate and assemble certificates and giveaway bags for camp participantsAssist with arts and crafts activities, especially for the final camp eventPerform routine vehicle inspections to ensure safety, cleanliness, and overall appearanceSupport basic janitorial tasks to help maintain a clean and organized camp environmentCarry out additional duties as assigned to support the overall success of the camp programHarris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer https://hrrm.harriscountytx.gov/Pages/EqualEmploymentOpportunityPlan.aspx If you need special services or accommodations, please call (713) 274-5445 or email

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Education: High School Diploma or GEDExperience: Minimum of two (2) years of professional driving experience, preferably in a transportation or youth program settingProven experience operating 15-passenger vans safely and efficientlyComfortable driving on highways, overpasses, and in various traffic conditionsLicensure: Must have valid Texas Driver's LicenseKnowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated safe driving practices and a clean driving recordStrong ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, maintaining a positive and respectful environmentKnowledge of vehicle safety procedures and ability to keep vehicles clean, well-maintained, and in good working conditionClear and professional communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to follow instructions and adhere to camp safety protocolsDependable and punctual, with strong time management skillsTeam-oriented with the ability to collaborate and work well with others in a fast-paced environmentNOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge and skills must be documented on your job application. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Location: Primary work location is at Deussen Park, in a camp cabin located at 12303 Sonnier St., Houston, TX 77044Working Environment: Transportation will be conducted using 15-passenger vansDaily interaction with children aged 5 to 13, as well as teen and adult staff membersGeneral working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; flexibility is required as hours may vary depending on camp needs and scheduled activitiesActive, outdoor setting with exposure to varying weather conditions and camp-related environmentsPhysical Demands: Must be able to lift, carry, and transport supplies and materials needed for daily camp duties (up to 25 lbs.)Must be able to safely enter and exit a 15-passenger van, which may require stepping up approximately 1 to 1.5 feetAbility to sit for extended periods while driving, as well as stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed throughout the dayMust be physically able to work in outdoor environments, which may include walking on uneven terrain and exposure to various weather conditionsRequires alertness and quick response to ensure the safety of children during transport and camp activitiesEmployment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
