Job Summary:
The Director of Operation & Logistics, is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight of installations, inventory, and support operations for Fortress’s Access Control Systems across client locations in North America. This role owns end-to-end operations logistics — including inventory forecasting, warehouse management, and vendor coordination while directing a distributed hardware team and collaborating closely with the overseas team. The Director of Operations & Logistics also serves as the acting on-site leader for the Orlando office in the absence of the Vice President, Support and Operations, and is expected to represent Fortress with a strong, polished professional presence in client, vendor, and executive-facing settings.
Duties/Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation processes
- Establish and maintain a rigorous inventory organization system
- Partner with relevant teams to identify solutions for hardware designs, and provide best practices
- Identify and resolve slow-moving, excess, or obsolete inventory
- Set and track KPIs such as inventory turnover, fill rate, and stockout rate
Logistics & Distribution:
- Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers
- Negotiate freight rates and service agreements to control transportation costs
- Oversee inbound and outbound shipping operations, ensuring on-time delivery performance
- Optimize warehouse layout, routing, and distribution network design
- Ensure compliance with import/export regulations and customs requirements (if applicable)
Cross- Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with procurement on supplier lead times and purchase order timing
- Work with sales and marketing to align inventory with demand planning
- Collaborate with finance on inventory valuation, budgeting, and cost forecasting
- Support S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) processes
Process Improvement & Systems:
- Own and optimize WMS (Warehouse Management System) and ERP inventory modules
- Implement automation and technology solutions to improve efficiency and visibility
- Report on key metrics to senior leadership and recommend corrective actions
Site & Operations Leadership:
- Serve as the acting point of contact and operational decision-maker for the Orlando office when the Sr. Vice President, Support and Operations is traveling, ensuring continuity of leadership, client responsiveness, and day-to-day operations.
- Coordinate cross-functional logistics across installation, warehouse, and support functions to keep multiple concurrent projects on schedule and within scope.
- Identify opportunities to streamline hardware operations workflows and reduce operational risk.
Communication & Reporting:
- Serve as a senior, trusted point of contact for internal stakeholders and clients, representing Fortress with a strong, professional presence in meetings, escalations, and executive-level updates.
- Maintain proactive, transparent communication regarding project status, operational risk, and technical escalations.
- Escalate issues to the appropriate internal teams and ensure timely resolution of both short- and long-term requests.
- Prepare and deliver polished activity reports and operational updates to project managers, clients, and executive leadership.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support hardware and warehouse staff across multiple ongoing projects, building a high-performing, accountable team.
- Indirectly oversee broader Orlando office staff and operations when serving as acting site leader in the Vice President’s absence.
- Review project scopes and manage schedules, assignments, and deliverables across the department.
Other Responsibilities:
- Travel required approximately 15–20% of the time, primarily for high-priority client escalations and strategic site visits, with the majority of time dedicated to on-site operations and logistics leadership in Orlando.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Additional duties may be assigned as business needs evolve.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in inventory management, logistics, or supply chain operations
- 3+ years in a people-management or leadership role
- Demonstrated success managing inventory forecasting, vendor relationships, and warehouse/supply-chain operations at scale.
- Strong knowledge of hardware installation standards, equipment (scanners, suite readers, turnstiles), and related schematics or blueprints.
- Excellent organizational, self-management, and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to represent an organization professionally in client-facing and executive settings.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and act as a site leader in the absence of senior leadership
Preferred:
- MBA or advanced degree in Supply Chain/Logistics
- APICS/CPIM, CSCP, or Six Sigma certification
- Experience in [specific industry, e.g., retail, e-commerce, manufacturing]
- Experience managing multi-site or multi-warehouse operations
