Science | Service | SustainabilityAbout the Role: Under director supervision, the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Follow Up Coordinator performs duties necessary to support the implementation of South Carolina's underground storage tank regulatory and compliance program. This position supports the UST Management Division within the Bureau of Land & Waste Management and serves as the primary coordinator for UST follow-up activities.Job Responsibilities: Provide information, compliance assistance, and outreach to UST owners and operators, helping them to understand and meet regulatory requirements. Assess owner/operator responses to Notices of Alleged Violation (NOAVs).Prepare referrals for facilities that require enforcement action.Issue reminder letters for sites with previous violations.Prepare reports from the program database for analysis and maintain the 3-year testing data.Conduct UST phase inspections.Answer inquiries from the regulated community and the public.Maintain project files and ensure documents are properly imaged and archived.Perform other duties as assigned. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.Note: Degrees in a related technical field may include, but are not limited to, earth sciences, chemistry, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, public health, engineering, and other relevant disciplines.Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application. Please note that the agency may require an official, certified copy of the transcript or diploma prior to hiring.Additional Requirements: Ability to read and interpret regulatory requirements. Guidance is provided by federal and state statutes, regulations. and UST guidance documents.Strong verbal and written communication skills when working with internal and external customers.Demonstrated proficiency in writing, proofreading, spelling, and organization.Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Proficiency with electronic data management and word-processing software (Microsoft 365 proficiency is preferred).Ability to perform related field work, including lifting up to 50 pounds.Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather when required.Must have a valid driver’s license, a 10-year driving record that meets State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to operate a state vehicle.Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel may be required.
