Job Title: PRN Childcare Teacher (On-Call/Substitute)

We are seeking dependable, flexible, and passionate childcare professionals to join our PRN team and provide support when regular staff members are absent due to illness, PTO, vacation, training, or other staffing needs.
Position Summary
The PRN Childcare Teacher provides high-quality care and supervision on an as-needed basis. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and have the flexibility to accept shifts with little notice. PRN staff are expected to step into classrooms, maintain established routines, and ensure a safe, positive learning environment while following all center policies and licensing requirements.
Essential ResponsibilitiesClassroom Support
- Provide classroom coverage for staff absences, vacations, PTO, training, and emergencies.
- Supervise children at all times while maintaining active supervision.
- Follow the daily classroom schedule and established routines.
- Assist with learning activities, center time, outdoor play, meals, naps, and transitions.
- Build positive relationships with children and staff.
- Support lead teachers in maintaining a safe and engaging classroom environment.
- Assist with diapering, potty training, toileting, and other daily care routines as needed.
Daily Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom.
- Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and licensing requirements.
- Complete assigned cleaning and classroom responsibilities.
- Ensure classrooms remain licensing-ready at all times.
- Report concerns, accidents, or unusual incidents to management immediately.
Communication & Professionalism
- Communicate professionally with children, families, coworkers, and leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and center operations.
- Accept classroom assignments with a positive attitude.
- Adapt quickly to different age groups and classroom environments.
- Follow direction from leadership and classroom teachers.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to meet all Texas Child Care Licensing requirements.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work with children ages 18 months through 5 years.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate throughout the workday.
Preferred
- Previous licensed childcare experience.
- CDA or Early Childhood Education coursework.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience with potty training.
- Experience using childcare management software such as Kangarootime, Brightwheel, or Procare.
Availability Expectations
This is an on-call (PRN) position. Employees are not guaranteed a set number of hours.
PRN team members should:
- Be available to accept shifts as staffing needs arise.
- Be willing to work with short notice when possible.
- Communicate availability promptly.
- Be dependable when accepting scheduled shifts.
- Be available to cover PTO, vacations, call-ins, staff training, and emergency absences.
