Pet Animal Welfare Society of CT or PAWS' mission is the rescue and adoption of our community's homeless and abused dogs and cats.
The Animal Care Assistant will be responsible for the overall care and well-being of the cats in the shelter, ensuring their feeding and cleanliness of the shelter.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be able to work mornings. Morning shift is 7:30 am - 11 am. Friday and Saturday mornings a must.
· Managing cat care, feeding, recording of eating and other behaviors, and proper cleaning of the facility and proper care and handling of cats.
· Monitor the health of the cats by observing signs or symptoms of illness, injury, or distress, and seeking veterinary care or environment changes as appropriate, in coordination with managers.
· Maintain healthy, safe, sanitary and cleanly housing for all cats.
Communications and Skills
· Good communication skills to ensure a team atmosphere.
· Demonstrate familiarity with cats and behaviors through either formal training or experience.
· Knowledge of cat handling techniques and common medical conditions.
· Enthusiastic support of the no-kill philosophy.
· Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with culturally diverse staff and volunteers in a professional, respectful, courteous and tactful manner.
· Comfortable with cats of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies.
Minimum Job Requirements
· Excellent customer relation skills.
· Dedicated to Paws mission.
· Willingness/availability to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
Reliable transportation to work.
