Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for emergency calls related to air medical transports, utilizing advanced phone triage techniques to assess situations effectively
- Operate radio communication systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software to coordinate dispatching of air ambulance units and ground support teams
- Gather and relay essential information using precise medical terminology, including details about patient condition, location, and environmental hazards
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and hospital personnel to ensure seamless communication during emergencies
- Utilize GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to determine accurate locations and optimize dispatch routes for rapid response
- Maintain detailed records of all communications, incident reports, and dispatch logs with high accuracy through data entry and transcription skills
- Demonstrate conflict management and negotiation skills when handling high-stress situations or distressed callers to ensure calm, clear exchanges
Requirements
- Prior EMT experience or background in emergency medical services is highly preferred
- Knowledge of emergency communication protocols including emergency medical dispatch (EMD) and police dispatch procedures
- Proficiency with radio communication systems, multi-line phone systems, telephony, and CAD software
- Strong understanding of basic life support (BLS), CPR, first aid, and medical terminology
- Experience with GPS technology, GIS mapping tools, and data analysis skills for effective dispatching
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with professional phone etiquette and active listening abilities
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations with composure while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Technical proficiency in typing, data entry, conflict management, negotiation, and transcription processes
