About Us
Marais Home is a furniture and lifestyle store rooted in a love for well-made things and thoughtful design. Opened in August 2024 in Lexington, KY, we curate a mix of vintage finds, made-to-order furniture, and inspired home goods from brands we admire. Our space is equal parts showroom and studio — a place where customers can shop, explore design ideas, and create homes that feel truly lived in.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Interior Designer to join our team and support our lead designer and owner on client projects from concept through install. This is not an entry-level or recent-graduate role. You've worked in a design job before, you've managed real projects with real clients, and you know how to specify furniture.
Your primary focus is assisting on design jobs, but you'll also help on the retail side: working the floor, styling the showroom, and talking to customers. You should be as comfortable presenting to a client as you are pulling samples or helping a walk-in pick a sofa fabric.
Revit is a core part of the daily workflow. You'll use it to draft space plans, build 3D visualizations, and put together client-ready presentations. Proficiency is required.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Project Support
- Support the lead designer on residential and commercial interior projects, including space planning, material and furniture selection, and finish specifications.
- Draft project drawings and 3D renderings in Revit.
- Conduct site visits, take field measurements, and verify conditions against existing plans.
- Build client presentations — mood boards, material boards, and design decks.
- Assist with project budgets, vendor coordination, order tracking, and install scheduling.
- Interpret and communicate across floorplans, elevations, and construction documents.
Client & Showroom
- Work directly with walk-in and appointment-based clients, guiding them through design decisions and product selections.
- Style and maintain the showroom floor to reflect current trends and seasonal updates.
- Support the retail team with product knowledge, merchandising, and in-store customer experience.
Creative & Brand
- Contribute to Marais Home's visual identity through content creation, trend research, and storytelling around new arrivals and design projects.
Requirements
- Prior professional interior design experience. You've held a design role and worked client projects start to finish.
- Proficiency in Revit.
- A degree or equivalent training in interior design or a closely related field.
- A strong portfolio of completed residential or commercial design work.
- Experience specifying and sourcing furniture, with familiarity working with furniture brands and their trade programs.
- Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, or clients on project timelines and logistics.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
- Strong communicator — comfortable presenting to clients and collaborating across a small team.
- Occasional Saturday availability.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs.
Nice to Have
- Experience with brands we carry, such as Rowe and Four Hands.
- Experience with Figma.
Why Marais Home
You'll be part of a small, growing team in a space that values craft, taste, and doing things thoughtfully. This role offers real hands-on design experience — working closely with ownership on real projects — inside a store environment that's genuinely fun to work in.
If you made it this far, please write us a short, personal cover letter describing why you want to join us.
