The Nurse Practitioner Psych will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with mental health disorders. The primary responsibilities of the role include conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health disorders, prescribing medications, and providing psychotherapy to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct psychiatric evaluations and diagnose mental health disorders based on DSM-5 criteria.
2. Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, including medication management and psychotherapy.
3. Prescribe medications and monitor patients for side effects and efficacy.
4. Provide psychotherapy to patients, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and other evidence-based therapies.
5. Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
6. Educate patients and their families about mental health disorders, treatments, and medications.
7. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists, to ensure comprehensive care.
8. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain current knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
2. Current state licensure as a nurse practitioner and certification as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner.
3. Minimum of two years of experience in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
4. Comfortable working with patients who have complex mental health conditions.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Proficient in using electronic health records and other healthcare technologies.
Working Conditions:
The Nurse Practitioner Psych will work in a clinical setting, such as a mental health clinic or hospital. The position may require working evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the patients. The role may also involve travel to different locations to provide care.
Physical Requirements:
The Nurse Practitioner Psych must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform physical assessments, such as taking vital signs and performing mental status exams. The position may also require walking or standing for short periods, as well as lifting up to 25 pounds.
