American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with at least 2 years of experience for a 13-week surgery position at a Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital in Milwaukee, WI.

636-bed, Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital located in Milwaukee, WI
-
Surgery unit handling ophthalmology (cataract, glaucoma, corneal, vitrectomy, retinal detachment), orthopedic (carpal tunnel, trigger finger, small joint fusions, ORIF distal radius), and general surgery (mastectomy, breast biopsy, plastics) cases

Ophthalmology cases utilize Zeiss microscopes; candidates must be comfortable assisting while looking through oculars

EMR: Epic

May be cross-trained to an on-site Urology Center if skillset and schedule allows; no floating to other hospitals or sites
-
4 x 9-hour day shifts per week (36 hours); start times vary between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM, most commonly 6:30 AM

On-call required on weekdays (end of shift until midnight), weekends (Sat/Sun 6:30 AM–midnight), and holidays (6:30 AM–midnight) with a 30-minute response time

Call rotation is approximately every 6 weeks and is subject to change based on staffing needs

Minimum 2 years of surgical first assisting experience required

CSFA certification required from NBSTSA, ABSA, or NCCSA

BLS certification required

Experience with ophthalmology, orthopedic, and general surgery cases required
-
Proficiency assisting with Zeiss microscope-guided ophthalmology procedures required

Active license required if applicable

Minimum 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN collected within the last year
-
Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

First-time travelers are generally not recommended for this position and would require further evaluation and approval from the hiring manager

Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible

Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius rules apply

Orientation is approximately 2 weeks, subject to change based on unit needs

Holiday coverage: travelers may work four 10-hour shifts during holiday weeks or take the holiday unpaid

RTO requests must be approved by the manager

Hospital-provided surgical scrubs; personal scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant
