Position Summary: This position provides supervision, programming, risk assessment, and decision making services for sex offenders under post-release supervision.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Reviews each sex offender releasing to post-release supervision to designated catchment area/offices, reviewing discharge summaries from sex offender programming, Clinical Services Reports where available, relevant criminal history, and risk/needs assessments, to identify risk areas. Identifies conditions of supervision and case management strategies to be used with the offender; and gives guidance to Parole Officers managing sex offenders in assigned service area on these issues. Staffs cases for all offenders managed as sex offenders with all Parole Officers in assigned service area on issues of minor contact, travel, employment, or other issues that present unique risk issues for sex offending behavior, making decisions regarding minor contact, visitation and employment. Makes ongoing decisions and recommendations regarding risk aversion, risk management and risk reduction in all sex offender cases with all Parole Officers supervising sex offenders in assigned service area. Staffs cases with Parole Officers managing sex offenders in assigned service area when there is evidence of escalated risk, making recommendations related to supervision, monitoring, further conditions, and other management aspects of the case. Makes recommendations in collaboration with supervisor, Program Director and Clinical Director or Assistant Clinical Director regarding referrals to community treatment for mental health or sex offender services.
Conducts Advanced Practice groups for Sex Offender Programming completers; occasionally conducts a full SOP group; ensures that sex offenders receive the right dose of ongoing skills practice; assesses in collaboration with Clinical Director when an offender needs or has sufficiently completed Advance Practice. Conducts updated risk assessments using actuarial instruments and further interviewing as necessary. Monitors and ensures program compliance by participants, including attendance, completion of homework, participation in the group activities, making progress in identifying and addressing risk, skills proficiency, and otherwise fully participating in a positive and pro social manner. Addresses motivation and responsivity on an ongoing basis. In the course of the groups, the incumbent uses core correctional practices to respond to and help change behavior. Becomes proficient in the use of core correctional practice, with booster and practice sessions as needed, seeking and giving coaching to strengthen capacity in CCP. This includes verbal and written responses, as appropriate. This includes responses during the group, and in one on one sessions as appropriate to supplement group work. The incumbent completes risk assessments as directed; and responds to escalations in risk in collaboration with the caseload carrier, supervisor, Clinical Director or other KDOC staff as needed.
Documents, tracks data, enters information in electronic systems, and otherwise maintains information as directed and necessary for SOP. Makes entries as needed to reflect progress, and timely completes discharge summaries. Attends trainings and skills building sessions as required. Participates in activities self-identified, with peers, with supervisor, and otherwise as available to build capacity in delivering robust evidence-based groups with fidelity.

Licensing & Certification: Must maintain a valid KS Driver's License
Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Two years of experience interacting with clients, customers, or the public in a social service, customer service, or problem resolution setting. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and three years of experience working with offenders in corrections.
Or 60 semester hours of college credit, with twelve hours in corrections or a related field, and five years of experience working with offenders in corrections.
Two years experience working with sex offenders.
Two years experience working with multi-discipline groups.
Two years experience in offender CBT group work.
Two years experience developing and writing policies.
Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based programming in corrections.
Demonstrated knowledge of core correctional practices.
Effective in working with a team and communicating.
