What you will do?
As the Youth Counselor you will be responsible for assisting in the engagement and development of children in a school based environment on a full-time basis. The position will focus on the development of youth activities and creating positive role-modeling for youth in areas of problem-solving and social skill development in a classroom setting. When school is not in session, this position has the flexibility to work in the residential program with similar responsibilities to maintain full-time hours throughout the year. Specific responsibilities include:

Assisting with the supervision and encouragement of participants following program standards.

Assisting in the development and implementation of program activities including program schedules and curriculum.

Recognizing & effectively responding to opportunities for problem-solving with clients.

Developing positive & engaging opportunities between students & staff.

Providing frequent age- and skill-appropriate opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during out of school time programming.

Carrying out established roles in enforcing out of school time program safety regulations.

Preparing for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory conferences.

Setting a good example for students and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up, sportsmanship, and table manners.

Encouraging and demonstrating respect for personal property, equipment, & facilities.

Creating and maintaining community partners including fellow organizations, and schools.

Maintaining good communication with families and community partners.

Providing positive group supervision of programs with attention to all of the following: program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character, & skill.
What you need:
You need to be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. A Bachelor’s degree in a social services or education is desired. Prior experience in working with children is preferred but, not required.
