Experienced Dog Trainer
Turn Skills Into Success. Change Lives One Dog at a Time.
Do you have a passion for helping dogs become happier, more confident, and better behaved? Are you an experienced trainer who loves seeing that moment when a dog finally “gets it” and a pet parent realizes what’s possible?
We’re looking for an Experienced Dog Trainer to join our team and take a lead role in creating meaningful results for dogs and their families.
This is more than teaching sit, stay, and come. You’ll help dogs build confidence, help pet parents better understand their dogs, and give families the tools they need to create stronger relationships with their pets.
You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor other trainers, work alongside resort leadership, and help grow a successful training program.
What You’ll Do
Every dog is different, and that’s what makes this job so rewarding. You’ll use your experience and creativity to help each dog reach its potential.
- Deliver customized training through private lessons, day training, and board-and-train programs
- Use approved training tools and methodologies to create safe, effective, and rewarding training experiences
- Lead engaging group training classes and help pet parents feel confident continuing the training at home
- Meet with pet parents for detailed orientations and behavior consultations to understand their goals and recommend the right training program
- Track each dog’s progress and celebrate the wins—big and small
- Partner with resort leadership to help grow training revenue, utilization, and occupancy
- Mentor and support newer trainers, sharing your knowledge, experience, and best practices
- Help train team members across the resort on safe handling, enrichment, and basic obedience
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe training environment where dogs can learn and thrive
- Keep accurate training records, behavior notes, progress updates, and client communications
- Participate in marketing events and help showcase our training programs through photos, videos, and other content
- Recognize behavioral or care concerns and communicate them quickly to leadership
- Jump in and support the team wherever your expertise is needed
What We’re Looking For
- Professional dog training experience is required—private lessons, group classes, day training, board-and-train, or similar
- Strong understanding of canine behavior, learning theory, and safe handling
- Ability to explain training concepts in a way that makes sense and feels achievable for pet parents
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Organized, dependable, and great at following through with clients
- Comfortable working in a busy, multi-dog environment
- Able to learn and use reservation and POS systems
- Flexible and dependable, with weekend and holiday availability required
- Ability to stand for extended periods, walk, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Able to confidently observe dog behavior, movement, and vocalizations and respond appropriately to maintain a safe environment
Preferred Experience
These aren't required, but they’re a big plus:
- Professional dog training certification such as CPDT-KA, KPA, IAABC, or similar
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or leading other trainers
- Experience working in a pet resort, daycare, boarding facility, or other multi-dog environment
Why You’ll Love This Role
This is an opportunity to do work that actually makes a difference.
You’ll see nervous dogs gain confidence, energetic dogs learn focus, and pet parents become more connected with their four-legged family members. You’ll celebrate progress, solve challenges, and help create those rewarding “look what my dog can do!” moments.
You’ll also have the opportunity to:
- Work in an established, professional training program
- Use your expertise to help shape training standards
- Mentor and develop other trainers
- Build relationships with dogs and their families
- Be part of a collaborative team that truly cares about pets
- Help grow a successful training program
- Continue developing your own skills and expertise
