Cardiology Clinical Staff Position Summary
We are seeking a hardworking, compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Cardiology Clinical Staff Member to join our team. The ideal candidate will have cardiology experience, excellent patient-care and communication skills, and a strong willingness to learn new skills.
This position plays an important role in providing quality patient care and supporting the day-to-day operations of a busy cardiology practice. The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly with patients, performing diagnostic testing, managing telephone communications, documenting in the EMR, and coordinating care with physicians and other healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Duties
- Perform patient data intake and obtain accurate medical histories.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs.
- Perform EKGs accurately and efficiently.
- Perform and/or assist with cardiac stress tests.
- Perform ankle-brachial index (ABI) testing.
- Apply Holter monitors and provide patients with appropriate instructions regarding their use.
- Triage patients and assess symptoms and concerns to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Communicate patient concerns and clinical findings to providers and other members of the healthcare team.
- Provide caring, compassionate, and professional patient care.
- Maintain patient comfort, privacy, and confidentiality throughout the patient experience.
Telephone & Patient Communication
- Answer incoming telephone calls and provide professional and courteous assistance.
- Conduct telephone intake and gather information regarding patient symptoms, concerns, and questions.
- Return patient phone calls in a timely manner.
- Discuss symptoms, treatment plans, testing instructions, and test results with patients as directed by the provider.
- Recognize potentially urgent or concerning symptoms and appropriately escalate them to the physician or clinical team.
- Demonstrate excellent telephone etiquette and strong verbal communication skills.
- Provide patients with clear and professional communication regarding their care.
EMR & Documentation
- Utilize eClinicalWorks (eCW) EMR for patient documentation and communication.
- Accurately document patient histories, clinical information, telephone encounters, and provider instructions.
- Complete timely and accurate charting and clinical notes.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date patient records.
- Document test results, patient communications, and follow-up activities appropriately.
Prescriptions & Care Coordination
- Process prescription refill requests according to office and provider protocols.
- Communicate with pharmacies regarding prescription-related questions and requests.
- Contact referring physicians and other medical offices as needed.
- Coordinate communication between the cardiology practice, referring providers, and other members of the patient's healthcare team.
- Assist with patient follow-up, testing, referrals, and care coordination.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous cardiology experience strongly preferred.
- Clinical healthcare experience required or preferred based on qualifications.
- Experience performing EKGs, stress tests, and ABIs preferred.
- Experience applying and managing Holter monitors preferred.
- Working knowledge of eClinicalWorks EMR strongly preferred.
- Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong patient intake, triage, and history-taking abilities.
- Excellent documentation and charting skills.
- Caring and compassionate approach to patient care.
- Hardworking, dependable, and professional.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a busy environment.
- Willingness and ability to learn new clinical skills, procedures, and technology.
