We are seeking a highly motivated and aspiring nursing leader to join our organization as a Director in Training (DIT) – Director of Nursing Services. This leadership development program is designed for experienced Registered Nurses who are ready to take the next step toward becoming a Director of Nursing in a skilled nursing facility setting.
The Director in Training will work alongside and learn from multiple experienced Directors of Nursing across our market, consisting of four skilled nursing facilities in Ventura County, two facilities in Santa Barbara, and one facility in Santa Maria. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and leadership development, the DIT will gain the clinical, operational, regulatory, and leadership skills necessary to successfully lead a nursing department.

Essential Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured Director of Nursing training program.
- Rotate throughout facilities within the market to gain exposure to diverse clinical and operational environments.
- Shadow and learn from experienced Directors of Nursing and Administrators.
- Assist with daily nursing operations and leadership responsibilities.
- Participate in quality assurance, risk management, and compliance activities.
- Assist with staff development, recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
- Learn staffing, scheduling, and labor management strategies.
- Develop knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and analyze quality measures and clinical outcomes.
- Participate in leadership meetings and interdisciplinary care planning.
- Complete leadership projects and developmental milestones.
- Travel regularly between facilities within Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, and Santa Maria.
QualificationsRequired
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Minimum of four (4) years of RN supervisory experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility, including leadership roles such as:
- Charge Nurse
- Unit Manager
- House Supervisor
- Staff Development Coordinator
- Infection Preventionist
- Other nursing supervisory positions
OR
- Current or previous experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) in a Skilled Nursing Facility.
- Demonstrated desire to advance into a Director of Nursing leadership role.
- Strong working knowledge of Skilled Nursing Facility regulations, clinical operations, and resident care standards.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting clinical excellence.
- Ability and willingness to travel between facilities throughout the market.
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience with survey management and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
- Experience managing staffing, scheduling, labor productivity, and employee relations.
- Strong understanding of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and post-acute care regulations.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced RN leader who has successfully supervised nursing teams in a Skilled Nursing Facility for at least four years or has experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing. They are passionate about developing staff, improving clinical outcomes, and growing into a Director of Nursing role through mentorship, education, and hands-on leadership experience.
