A warm, professional family in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Family Assistant / Household Manager to help keep their busy household running smoothly. This is a long-term opportunity for a proactive, highly organized professional who enjoys creating order, supporting an active family, and working independently with minimal supervision.
The family includes two accomplished parents and their two energetic, happy boys, ages 11 and 8. They are looking for someone who naturally notices what needs to be done, takes initiative, and enjoys creating calm and organization in a busy home.
The majority of the workday will focus on household management, organization, laundry, errands, meal assistance, and maintaining the home between professional cleaning visits. In the afternoons, responsibilities transition to supporting the children by providing transportation to activities, preparing simple meals, and creating a fun, engaging environment until the parents return home.
Primary Responsibilities:
Household Management:
– Maintain the overall organization and presentation of the home
– Reset and maintain the home each day so it is always family and guest ready
– Laundry, folding, ironing as needed, and wardrobe organization
– Maintain cleanliness between bi-weekly professional housekeeping visits
– Organize closets, cabinets, pantries, play areas, and household storage
– Grocery shopping and household errands
– Keep household supplies stocked and organized
– Light meal preparation and family meal assistance
– Coordinate occasional vendors or service appointments as needed
– Perform additional household management responsibilities as needed
Family Assistant Responsibilities:
– Pick up children from school and transport them to after-school activities using the family vehicle
– Prepare after-school snacks and simple meals
– Engage the boys in games, activities, and conversation
– Provide a positive, dependable presence after school
– Help maintain routines while parents finish their workday
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys both household management and working with school-age children. They are confident working independently, anticipate needs without constant direction, and take pride in creating an organized, welcoming home.
Candidates should be:
– Experienced supporting private families in a Family Assistant, Household Manager, or similar role
– Exceptionally organized with outstanding attention to detail
– Self-motivated and proactive
– Warm, personable, and easy to communicate with
– Calm, dependable, and flexible
– Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
– Enjoy engaging with active school-age children
– Confident driving children to activities
– Trustworthy, discreet, and committed to maintaining confidentiality
– Interested in building a long-term relationship with one family
