Part-Time After-School Ukulele Instructor
Ravenwood Instruments is seeking enthusiastic part-time music instructors to teach beginning ukulele classes at elementary schools participating in an after-school instrumental music program with Granite School District.
This is a great opportunity for musicians, music education students, private music teachers, educators, and others who enjoy working with children and want flexible part-time teaching work in the afternoons.
Instructors will teach using Ravenwood Instruments' structured One-Key Ukulele curriculum and will receive program-specific curriculum materials, training, and implementation support. Classes are designed for beginning students, so instructors should be comfortable creating an encouraging, organized environment where children can develop musical skills and confidence.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach after-school beginning ukulele classes at assigned Granite School District elementary school sites.
- Provide instruction approximately twice per week at assigned school sites, based on school schedules and program needs.
- Follow the provided One-Key Ukulele curriculum and lesson sequence.
- Teach beginning skills including instrument care, posture, tuning, rhythm, chords, strumming, picking, ensemble playing, and performance preparation.
- Establish positive classroom routines and maintain an organized, supportive learning environment.
- Help students of different ability levels participate successfully.
- Take and submit student attendance as required.
- Reinforce appropriate handling and care of classroom instruments.
- Communicate with Ravenwood program leadership regarding student progress, scheduling, materials, or site needs.
- Follow Granite School District and individual school procedures, including student dismissal and pickup requirements.
- Help prepare students for informal performances, sharing events, or other program activities when scheduled.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience playing ukulele, guitar, or another musical instrument.
- Experience teaching music, tutoring, coaching, leading youth activities, or working with elementary-age children.
- Strong communication and classroom-management skills.
- Dependable, professional, patient, and comfortable working independently at a school site.
- Ability to learn and follow a structured curriculum.
- Reliable transportation to assigned school locations.
Formal classroom teaching experience is helpful but not the only type of experience we will consider. We are interested in applicants who have strong musical ability, work well with children, and are willing to learn the One-Key Ukulele instructional system.
Selected instructors will be expected to complete required onboarding, program training, and any applicable background-check or school-site requirements before beginning instruction.
Schedule: Part-time, primarily weekday afternoons after school. Exact days, hours, and school-site assignments will depend on program enrollment, instructor availability, and school schedules.
Location: Granite School District elementary school sites in Utah. Applicants may be considered for one or multiple school locations depending on availability.
If you enjoy making music accessible to beginners and would like to help elementary students develop confidence through hands-on music instruction, we encourage you to apply.
