Referral Coordinator / Medical Assistant – Full-Time

Coastal Health is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Referral Coordinator / Medical Assistant to join our team in Blackshear, GA. This dual-role position is ideal for a motivated healthcare professional who excels in both administrative coordination and clinical support, and who is committed to delivering excellent patient care in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
The Referral Coordinator / Medical Assistant is responsible for managing patient referrals and supporting clinical operations. This role serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, and specialty offices while also assisting with direct patient care when needed.
Referral Coordination Duties:

Process and track outgoing referrals to specialists, imaging centers, and ancillary services

Verify insurance coverage, obtain prior authorizations, and ensure referrals meet payer requirements

Schedule referral appointments and communicate details clearly to patients

Follow up on referral status and ensure timely completion of services

Maintain accurate documentation of referral activity in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Coordinate with external providers to obtain consultation notes and reports
Medical Assistant Duties:

Prepare patients for examination, including taking vital signs and medical histories

Assist providers during patient exams and procedures

Administer injections and perform basic clinical tasks within scope of practice

Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment

Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the medical record

Support patient flow and provide excellent customer service
Education & Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
Experience:
-
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a medical office setting required

Prior experience with referrals, insurance verification, or prior authorizations strongly preferred
Knowledge:

Understanding of medical terminology, insurance processes, and referral workflows

Familiarity with EMR systems and office procedures
