Position Summary
The Client Advocate Specialist provides trauma-informed advocacy, transportation, and program support to clients across Chrysalis shelter and community-based programs. This role flexes to meet client needs—supporting transportation to critical services while also assisting with direct client care, documentation, coordination, and coverage for advocacy teams as needed.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring client safety, dignity, engagement, and continuity of care, while supporting the overall flow and operations of the shelter.
What You’ll Do:
Client Advocacy & Support At Shelter
- Provide trauma-informed, respectful, and client-centered support to individuals accessing shelter and community-based services.
- Support clients in navigating services, appointments, and program expectations.
- Offer emotional support, de-escalation, and crisis-informed responses within the scope of your training and role.
- Uphold client dignity, autonomy, confidentiality, and safety at all times.
- Contribute to a safe, respectful, and welcoming shelter environment for all clients and staff.
Program & Shelter Support
- Assist with daily shelter operations and client support needs.
- Provide coverage support for advocacy staff during high-need periods.
- Support service coordination, scheduling, and client flow throughout the shelter.
- Assist with client onboarding and engagement in shelter program at support offices.
- Conducting shelter assessments to callers and creating safety plans tailored to each caller
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document transportation services, client interactions, incidents, and required logs.
- Communicate effectively with advocacy staff, supervisors, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Promptly report incidents, safety concerns, or policy violations in accordance with Chrysalis procedures.
Transportation Services
- Safely transport clients to appointments including court, medical services, counseling, housing, and other approved destinations.
- Plan routes and schedules to ensure timely arrivals while minimizing stress for clients.
- Follow all transportation safety laws, including seatbelt and child safety seat requirements.
- Practice defensive driving and maintain a clean driving record.
- Communicate transportation details clearly with both clients and staff.
- Meeting each client where they are and providing resources and/or quite calming space while transporting.
What You Bring
Knowledge, Skills & Core Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to provide trauma-informed, client-centered support.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or crisis situations.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations; domestic violence or behavioral health experience preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing program needs.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethical conduct, and professional boundaries.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Basic proficiency with documentation systems and office technology.
Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Associate degree and minimum and or 2 years of experience in the social services field or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21, with a valid Arizona driver’s license and current auto insurance.
- Clean driving record with demonstrated commitment to defensive driving.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and supportive in high-stress environments.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple program areas.
- Commitment to trauma-informed, client-centered service delivery.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Other Requirements
- Follow all Chrysalis policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in required trainings, certifications, and professional development.
- Support training initiatives and use of advocacy tools, resources, and workbooks as assigned.
- Must pass fingerprinting and background clearance per Chrysalis and ADHS licensure requirements.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Provide proof of a current negative TB test annually.
- Ability to routinely move equipment up to 50 lbs and ascend/descend stairs as required.
