This recruitment process will be used to fill full-time contract and regular-status Security Officer positions with the Glendale Police Department. Contract positions are one-year terms. The benefits offered with contract positions are medical, sick time, and ASRS retirement. As vacancies occur contract employees may have the opportunity to move to regular-status positions with full City benefits.

One year of experience as a detention officer or equivalent combination of training and experience preferably in a public safety environment. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of:
Federal, state and city laws, regulations, and ordinances relating to the custody of prisoners
Criminal justice information systems
Department policies and procedures relating to prisoner/jail safety
Skill in:
The use of computerized information systems
Ability to:
Safely transport prisoners from one location to another; maintain jail safety practices.
Accurately process prisoners into and out of custody
Perform all booking procedures and tests
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, city officials, other agencies and the general public
Special Requirements
Valid Arizona driver's license.
Must be Terminal Operator Certified by DPS within six (6) months of hire.
Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
Requires occasional lifting of 50 to 100 pounds.
