What you would be doing:

Outreach – Work with an existing network of employers in addition to reaching out to local employers to secure internship opportunities for youth interested in exploring career pathways and developing employable skills.

Mentor – coach and motivate underserved and underrepresented youth that may not otherwise have career pathways open to them. Guide and coach these individuals on how to explore and develop career opportunities to bring about both personal and financial stability in their lives.

This is a salaried position at $4,188.00 - $6,923.00/Monthly, DOE and Qualifications. ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
COIC provides an individualized employment and training program that empowers youth to achieve both academic and employment success. We do this in partnership with local school districts, providing full wrap around services in an array of settings, including partner programs and alternative high school settings to students ages 14-21. Our program supports youth in seeking credit recovery and/or completing their GED or High School Diploma along with providing Work Ready training to assist finding employment. Work Reading training includes supporting youth in Career assessment and exploration, job search, interview techniques along with paid internship placement.
JOB PURPOSE
Mentor, coach, and assist youth toward achieving personal growth and success. Work with local school districts and numerous local partners as part of the COICs Youth Compass Program to recapture youth who have or are at risk of dropping out of regular school. Responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing employment and training opportunities for enrolled youth aged 16-24. Primarily placing youth and young adults into internships with local businesses and organizations.

FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement a solid skills training program for youth assigned to the case manager's caseload.

Responsible for carrying out work assignments ensuring that work is performed in a safe manner and with quality outcomes.

Responsible for enrolling eligible youth into both federally and state-funded grant opportunities carrying out all associated case management duties.

Meet with eligible youth in local high schools, alternative high schools, community colleges and other partner agencies to recruit and enroll appropriate youth into the Youth Compass Internship program. Focus on internship placement to provide necessary work skills for future employment.

Provide necessary case management services, including follow-up services to youth including paperwork from enrollment to termination for those youth who are enrolled concurrently in the Oregon Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title 18 program.

Develop and place youth in the local community in paid internships.

Provide regular follow-up on placements to evaluate student progress.

Work with classroom instructors to ensure youth are making progress towards their educational goals, COIC programs, local high schools, and other local partner organizations.

Assist with conferences and evaluation of each student's progress.

Develop and teach career search and work readiness classes for COIC youth.

Assist youth in becoming work-ready, helping youth work past barriers to make them more employable in the future.

Work under the direct supervision of the WIOA Youth Employment and Training Manager.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma and two years of relevant experience in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted. Must have one (1) year's supervisory experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to clearly communicate in person or over the telephone.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must have the ability to lift 20 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will reside in a typical office environment, with regular travel to school districts, internship sites and other youth partner program sites within the community. Some travel between offices, to training/staffing events.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:-
Must pass a criminal background check.

Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Must have a valid Oregon drivers license and access to a private vehicle or equivalent means of transportation for travel between work sites.

Must complete an Oregon Department of Education fingerprinting and criminal record check and agree to release that information to the Department of Education.

Must maintain client and agency confidentiality.
